Italy, a member and founder of the European Union, is located in the center of the Mediterranean Sea, in southern Europe. In the north, it is surrounded by the Alps and borders France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.
It is the third country in Europe that receives the most tourists per year and one of the reasons is because it contains the largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world (58 places).
